Do I set up a new forum or wait?

I was considering setting up a new forum as a temporary measure while the main Surfers of Dubai site is down. The problem with that is that you'd have to register again, and if/when I get the old forum back up, I can't merge whatever was in the new forum with the old one. But please comment here if you think I should set up a new forum anyway, or if I shouldn't, or if this blog is good enough for a few days (I don't know how long it will take to retrieve old data, or if I can).

I suggest you continue to try and retrieve the old content whilst at the same time using this blog as a fill in.

If after some time it becomes apparent that your attempt at retrieval is proving futile then that would be the best time to start another.

You mention that the site backup is also unavailable...?

In every challenge there is an opportunity.

If the option is to upload the same forum engine, then I would hold and try to resolve the current situation (suggestion: contract directly with the parent host company... I'd be surprised if they didn't restore all the archives pronto).

However, if we can get a newer forum engine for the SOD forum/website, then I say go for it. I spend a lot of time on www(dot)jbrcommunity(dot)com and have to say their layout and features are very good.

I understand that there is a cost associated with running a website and think that it would be fair to set up a voluntary AED collection to help with the maintenance of the SOD.

Let me know if I can help in anyway.

Thanks colin, nuno. Yes, hoping to get access via the parent host company.

jbrcommunity uses the latest version of the same forum software - nice. Will probably upgrade SOD forum if I get it back, otherwise use it for new one.

Thanks for the donation idea, appreciate it. Hosting cost is not significant though, and advertising covers it. Save your fils and dirhams for surf wax :).
